Assignment #4: The Public SMASH Announcement (PSA)

Similar to the traditional Public Service Announcement, the Public SMASH Announcement sends a valuable message to the public from the SMASH Community. The objective is to persuade the viewer to take a specific action or adopt a favorable view of an issue or cause.

Public Service Announcement Project – Graffiti

July 30th, 2010

The reason i created this Public Service Announcement was because i see it all around everyday when i lived in Oakland and one day when i road the train to Santa Clara, one strip of trip was completely defaced for about a mile. I just want children to take that talent and instead of degrading other people’s property, create, beautiful painting.  The children need a different outlet for their energy besides “tagging” things all around the neighborhood and destroying other people’s property.  Some have even gone as far as tagging trees and plants.  The graffiti needs to stop. Now.

Assignment 4: Mental Health PSA

July 30th, 2010

This Assignment was really personal to me. As someone who suffers from Depression, I think it is very important for others to know about mental health issues. I wanted the general public to know that people can be sick without looking physically sick.

Assignment 4: Toilet Crisis

July 30th, 2010

My public service announcement is about the toilet crisis around the world. Forty percent of the world’s population do not have access to modest toilets and therefore open defecation or the excretion of bodily wastes is the norm. For the analogy, I used the AIDS/HIV epidemic. Although both result in about the same number of deaths per year (two million) and have similar symptoms, the toilet crisis is easier to result in abrupt change as opposed to necessary years of research and experimentation in the AIDS/HIV research. The inspiration for my PSA came from a show called Vanguard which had an episode about the toilet crisis in impoverished countries.

Here’s an excerpt from the Toilet Crisis episode of Vanguard:

PSA

July 27th, 2010

For my PSA, I’ve decided to talk about young voters not registrating to vote.  Many of young adults complain on how government is being run and how they do not like how many laws are going yet they do not bother to go and vote. There won’t be narration. It is more of a visual. I would green screen Megan trying to say something but having no voice because no one is listening and I want to find a clip online of people going along her not paying attention to her.
